What personal data Frontier keeps, and why.

Frontier is a free, non-profit, fan-run game server. This page explains what personal data we keep and why.

What we collect

  • Account data: your account name, your password (stored only in hashed form, never in plain text), and the email address you registered with.
  • Game data: your characters, items, progress, chat and in-game actions, as needed to run the game.
  • Technical logs: IP address, login and logout times, and client information, kept for security, abuse prevention and enforcing the Terms of Use.

We do not collect payment data, because nothing on Frontier can be bought.

Why we use it

  • To run your account and the game (performance of the service you signed up for).
  • To protect the server and players from cheating, bots and abuse (legitimate interest).
  • To send account emails, such as registration confirmation. We send no newsletters or marketing.

Who else sees it

We do not sell or rent your data. A few service providers process data for us, only to run the service:

  • Hosting provider (the server the game and website run on, in the EU).
  • Email delivery provider, which sends account emails.
  • Captcha service on the registration page (Cloudflare Turnstile), which blocks bots.
  • Cloudflare, which serves the website.
  • Google Fonts and Wowhead's image host (wow.zamimg.com), which deliver the website's fonts and game icons. Your browser contacts them when you open a page, so they see your IP address.

How long we keep it

  • Account and game data: as long as the account exists. Accounts are not closed for inactivity.
  • Technical logs: 90 days, then deleted, unless needed for an ongoing abuse case.
  • Beta data may be wiped at any time, and all of it (accounts included) is wiped before launch.

Your rights

You can ask to see your data, correct it, or have your account and data deleted. Contact us on Discord. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. If you live in the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Cookies

The website uses only what is technically necessary (for example, the captcha on the registration page). No advertising or tracking cookies.

Changes

We may update this policy; the date at the top shows the latest version.
